"It's not uncommon for moms to make several trips to the maternal observation unit, especially first time moms, not knowing what to expect, not clearly knowing what changes are going on in the body," says Becky Law, the hospital's Manager of Lactation & Childbirth Education. "Once it's determined that she's in true labor, she will be transferred to the labor and delivery suites and then she will have one-on-one care with the nurse there."
